Hakan Temucin was born in Ankara, Turkey, in 1983. He started his photography career in 1999 under the tutelage of the well-known nature photographer Faruk Akbas, the founder of Istanbul-photography-house and Kayakoy Art Camp. After meeting the black & white photographer Dora Gunel, the founder of the Istanbul photography foundation in 2000, Temucin started learning darkroom techniques under his guidance. In 2002, Temucin began his formal studies at Marmara University, in the Faculty of Fine Arts Photography Department. During his undergraduate education, Temucin won the black & white portfolio award Genc Bakıs (Young View), awarded by the Istanbul Photography Center, where his work was subsequently exhibited in 2004. In 2005, Temucin’s work won accolades in a national competition based on Istanbul Islands. He participated in the Istanbul Pera Musuem EL/LE group exhibition in 2006, and Goethe Institutes The Power of Language group exhibition in 2007 at Academy of Arts, Berlin. In 2007, Temucin opened his first solo exhibition called Hayalimdeki Istanbul (Istanbul in my imagination) at the Fotografevi Koc Allians Gallery and in The Marmara Istanbul Hotel exhibition hall in 2008. He participated to Ecpor Center Exposure Festival by taking part in the Window gallery group exhibition as he participated to exhibition Trace at the University of Calgary’s Little Gallery in 2009. Temucin is currently a student at the University of Calgary, in the Faculty of Fine Art.
