The Baker Creek Enhancement Society's Mission:
To promote public awareness, stewardship and restoration of our local environment.

The Quesnel Climate Change Group, as committee of the BCES, is concerned about the effects of climate change on our environment and our way of life. Our objectives are to work with local government in developing strategies to reduce our local contribution to climate change, to develop strategies to mitigate the effects of climate change that has already occurred, and to implement these strategies.

Community Involvement:
- Consultations with residents & logging companies in the watershed to discuss their concerns
- Various stewardship programs with schools, Boy Scouts and Guides
- Community hikes & cleanups within the watershed
- Development of a Nature Education & Resource Centre
- Representation on various planning committees
- Weed Eradication with local volunteers
- Wood Stove Exchange Program
- Participation in the BC Frogwatch & BC Turtlewatch

Environmental Commitment

Environmental projects:
- Operation of the Nature Education & Resource Centre
- Restoration of damaged ecosystems
- Development of environmental awareness programs
- Provision of information and resources for land development and management
- Enhancement of sensitive areas by working with landowners
- Deliver, coordinate, facilitate the stewardship, education & restoration programs
- Identification & mapping of 20 priority work sites for the restoration of Baker Creek
- Development of a comprehensive mapping portfolio, including; priority restoration sites, reach designations, dominant substrate composition types, water flow rates, salmon spawning values, salmon rearing values, the 200 year flood zone, land use corridors, zoning corridors, official community plan designations, high slope regions & storm water out fall locations
- Development guidelines for riparian set backs
- Compiling of fish and stream data
- Stream bank & fish habitat restoration
- Watershed Stewardship

High School students from Quesnel and Williams Lake get opportunities to experience the UNBC Quesnel River Research Centre through class visits or mentoring with local researchers:

- Sustainability,
- Over 2,000 hours of volunteer involvement in Programs and Events, such as Earth Week, Wildlife Week, Clean Air Day,
- Youth employment training,
- Youth mentoring,
- School and community presentations,
- Tours of spawning pink salmon,
- Creation of numerous models and teaching aids for watershed stewardship activities, plantings, water quality and quantity tests on Baker Creek, Narcosli Creek, Naver Creek and the Cottonwood.
