Since 1999, NextStep has accepted donations of hundreds of thousands of computers and other electronic devices. In the process, we have put thousands of pieces of equipment back into use in the community—including 18,000 refurbished computer systems (current to June, 2009) and thousands of items sold at an extremely low cost through our ReUse Store—and recycled over 6,200,000 pounds of electronic waste (e-waste). More than 1700 volunteers have donated over 136,000 hours of service refurbishing and recycling computers. Of those volunteers, hundreds have enhanced their employment marketability through experiential service learning and extensive training by our staff.
